This sculpture captures the inversion (process of turning inside-out) a flexible hemisphere, midway through the process. The hemisphere is in tension, poised to revert to its original shape or to surrender to the complete inversion. The stone is anhydrite (i.e., without water), which is chemically the same as alabaster (a calcium sulfate), save a pair of bound water molecules.
