This sculpture honors the classical Greek and Roman amphora vase, roughly shaped like an ice-cream cone topped by a spherical scoop. One face of the starting wedgewood marble block had been exposed for millions of years to its environment, and so acquired a eroded rust-stained patina. I worked that face of natural skin into the completed structure to give the amphora vase the look of an archeological artifact.
